The New Trend in Web Development
If you attended the Future of Web Apps this year you’ll remember that one of the applications a panel of 11 well-known web entrepreneurs conceived was an application that added an extra layer of control and statistics to your email. That panel, which included Kevin Rose (Digg/Pownce/Rev3), Leah Culver (Pownce), Cal Henderson (Flickr), echoed a larger trend in web development: the attack on the Inbox.
Companies like Xobni and Xoopit are rethinking (and grossly improving) the functionality of the email inbox. ReadWriteWeb takes a look at this area of web development here.
Also, click here to download the panel I mentioned from FOWA ‘08. It’s an interesting listen and includes Ryan Carson (Carsonified), Erick Schonfeld (TechCrunch), Blaine Cook (Twitter), Kevin Hale (Wufoo), Leah Culver (Pownce), Alex Bard (Goowy), Gary Vaynerchuk (WineLibrary.tv), Kevin Rose (Digg), Carlos Garcia (ScrapBlog), Cal Henderson (Flickr), and Matt Mullenweg (WordPress) brainstorming to conceive a web app on stage. The back and forth on email is interesting and may spark some ideas for any of you developers out there interested in creating some inbox extensions.
