Google Gadget Competition in East Africa Nears End

Google is increasingly embedding itself into the African tech community. It’s not surprising, then, that they’re now actively engaging African students. Their Google Gadget competition has been open to East African students since February and Monday, July 14th marks the last day for participants to enter.

One overall winner will be selected in addition to five others who will receive runner-up prizes and awards. Possible categories in which a winner will be awarded include:

(1) Best Gadget UI
(2) Best Local Content Gadget (Most Locally Useful Gadget)
(3) Best Education Specific Gadget
(4) Most Technically Sophisticated Gadget
(5) Gadget Most Likely to Get International Traffic
(6) Best Social Gadget

For the six winners of the East Africa Gadget Competition Google has the following exciting prizes: Five students will receive a US$350 stipend and the winner will receive a US$600 stipend.
