E-Trash Piles up in Ghana

Somewhere along the line a few people have gotten the idea that anything that they aren’t using anymore should be boxed up and mailed off to China, India or places like Ghana in Africa. While the motivation and general compulsion is good, how much do these discards actually help the recipients? What becomes of them? What of the burden placed on the recipient countries to find suitable means to facilitate all this ‘stuff‘.

This article from BBC explores the growing problem of Africa and other developing countries becoming the ‘dumping ground’ for everything from outdated cellphones to ‘moon boots’.
