OpenAfrica

A few months back I downloaded the “OpenAsia” OPML file that Gang-Lu of Netvibes offered as a one stop shop for tracking news related to business, finance, tech and startups in the Asian continent. Although largely focused on Japan, China and Indian markets, OpenAsia offered an expansive look at Asian progress in various areas of technology. The feeds proved invaluable to my understanding of the continent an what’s going on there in business.

Today I decided to package all the feeds I use for collecting data on Africa. It’s Appfrica’s goal to help ‘open Africa’ up for those interested including social entrepreneurs, investors and anyone who wants to learn more about the continent.

So, in that spirit, I’ve created an “OpenAfrica” OPML file full of rss feeds that I read daily from African bloggers or blogs that are somehow related to Africa. This includes blogs like Afro-IP (a group of African intellectual property lawyers), Afrigadget (African innovation and ingenuity), StartupAfrica (focusing on the continent’s startup landscape), KenyanPundit (Ory Okollow, co-founder of Ushahidi), AllAfrica (African news, country by country), UgandanInsomniac (a Ugandan blogger) and twenty or so more…

To use the file just download it, unzip it, and import “openafrica.opml” into your favorite feedreader like Bloglines or NewsGator. For questions or comments, hit me on twitter.
