I disagree that Bing looks like Google.
I get a different feel from Bing than I do from Google.

So far that feeling also engenders a positive outlook with Bing's results.

I'll keep using Bing for a while -- Google isn't the only game in town.

I should have done my research. It turns out Google's already somewhat answered this problem through federation which would allow anyone to run Wave from their own server, sort of like how e-mail can be run from a server. This would mean I could run it locally on a server that results in faster use for me and my staff. Interesting. Attempting to watch the video now. I'll write a follow up post after I've looked into it more.

Of course, I have to point out that all this real-time communication stuff only matters to the fraction of people on the planet with good bandwidth. Here in Uganda, I’m so glad when an email actually makes it out of the queue that I don’t even bother to think about ‘rewinding’ conversations and dragging and dropping video! In all seriousness, it’s this reduction in basic utility for all users that worries me.
[/quote]
I doubt that there will be significant reduction in basic utility. The client side enterface is built in html 5, and designed to work offline. During the demo, an iphone was used while it was not connected to the network. Sure, some of the features won't be available offline (the spell checker and translator, for example), but for the most part, it should work with an intermittent connection as well as or better than google talk, gmail, or docs.

If you had Waved that, I could strip out the apostrophe from the second-to-last word there, proving that it can indeed help make the 'net a better place.

First thing I thought about when I saw this for the first time: how much bandwidth does it require and will it also work offline? (resp. "If it works in Africa..." etc.)
