@John It's all about the future. What I'm saying is these technologies currently exist and in the next two years or so I think we'll start to see people pulling them together in ways that haven't been explored yet. In fact it's already happening! =)

Hey Jon,

Great post... AR is definitely moving into the forefront. Especially with the Yelp app easter egg for the iPhone. You have raised several great observations and 'wants' for the industry.

This definitely gets me thinking and raises some questions:

- First, facial recognition is difficult. Detecting a face in a photo is much easier than detecting whose face it is. Are there open APIs for this? Would this have to be licensed? Cost to build?

- Data is king. It always has been, we're just realizing that know (although I think you've known this a bit longer than most). From my tiny perspective of "how things work" in the field... it seems like it is hard to get regularly scheduled updates. Some orgs can only hope to get updates each quarter. Do you think if a means were there they would be encouraged to give more frequent updates. Maybe even a conversation?

Money is a great motivator of all things, but what else drives that motivation? Why do you do what you do?

Thanks for your thoughts! TMS Ruge brought this post to my attention when he asked if it was possible to add AR to my action map. =)

Definitely want to touch base and get your feedback before beta if you have time.

cheers!
john

p.s. the link to appfrica labs is broken.
