If you haven’t visited code.appfrica.net yet then you’ll be among the majority, lol. However, I aim to change that by offering a new series of posts related to web development, tutorials, hacks and tips. I write development tutorials professionally for a number of websites and magazines but I want to devote special attention to offering code advice to African students and aspiring programmers. By no means is this the ‘only place’ to go. I highly recommend Mashada as it has a very healthy developer forum geared towards Africa. If you’re interested in learning Rails(Ruby), Django (Python) or any of the various PHP frameworks I guarantee you code.appfrica.net will soon become the forum for you. Right now I’m focusing on four specific areas (the stuff I know fairly well):

    • PHP and related Frameworks
    • Ruby on Rails
    • Django (Python)
    • Firefox

As the number of contributors grows, I hope this will become a place for developers world-wide (and especially those in Africa) to share knowledge and resources for the benefit of the community. If you’d like to join http://code.appfrica.net simply go there and register or click on the ‘registration’ link located in the top bar of this blog.

About the Author: Jonathan Gosier (Founder) is an American-born software developer, writer and social entrepreneur. He currently lives in Kampala, Uganda where he is working on two fronts: to encourage western businesses and investors to engage African entrepreneurs and to encourage the adoption of computers, programming and use of the internet in the developing regions of Africa. He is a huge advocate for promoting the ways in which a semantic web will benefit emerging economies in the world.
