Google Begins to Offer Localized Content for Africa

Google has gone out of it’s way to show that it’s fully committed to becoming a player in the sub-Saharan African market. In the past month alone they’ve announced the Google Africa blog, Google Africa mailing-list, and more recently they put their money where their PR is and purchased a minor stake in Kenya’s Mobile Planet. There’s also rumors of a local cache for East-Africa that would effectively speed up the internet for African surfers by 20%. Today they up the ante even further by offering localized versions of Google News for 9 African countries: Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Ghana, Uganda and Botswana.
