Why Blog About Africa?

There’s a meme spreading through the African blogosphere asking the bloggers of the continent to explain why they do what they do. Personally I blog about African tech because I’ve been on the other side. Growing up in the U.S. there’s a lot of cynicism, distrust and fear when it comes to Africa. If you take the coversation to technology people usually just laugh at you. It’s unfortunate because this robs many young african tech enthusiasts and developers of opportunities they might excel at. In reality, like any other place on the planet, there’s the good, the bad and what’s changing. I blog about African tech because although most of the world isn’t paying attention, there are nearly one billion people on the continent who are.

The meme was started by Théophile Kouamouo and inspired a number of responses from well known African bloggers. Global Voices has collected them here.
